In the wake of the Dapchi kidnapping, Nigerian activists are calling on lawmakers to investigate the multi-million dollar safe schools initiative, and how the funds have been used. Organizers tell VOA the bulk of the funding has gone to transferring 2,000 students to schools in safer zones and creating schools within internally displaced persons or IDP camps. But as the conflict enters its 10th year, the initiative is turning some of those IDP schools into permanent structures, leaving some relocated students to study far from their home communities. Chika Oduah visited IDIP camps in Maiduguri, a school in Potis-Kum, as well as the Buni Yadi secondary school, which was attacked in 2014.
