Because George Washington Carver knew how to nurse sick plants back to life neighbors named George “the plant doctor”.
George Washington Carver continued to attend Iowa State Agricultural College where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Science in 1894.
George Washington Carver was the first African American to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Science.

George Washington Carver became the first Black scientist to be memorialized with a national monument.
