Franz Kafka, born in Prague in 1883, stands as one of the most enigmatic and profound literary figures of the 20th century. Raised in a German-speaking Jewish family, Kafka lived in a turbulent time, which is reflected in his works full of alienation and conflict. Although he worked as a lawyer and insurance clerk, his true passion was writing, creating masterpieces such as "The Metamorphosis" and "The Trial."

Despite his literary genius, Kafka led a life marked by illness, heartbreak, and tumultuous relationships. He never married, and battled tuberculosis for much of his life. Kafka died in 1924 at the young age of 40, leaving many of his works unfinished. However, his friend Max Brod, disobeying Kafka's wishes to destroy his manuscripts, published them posthumously, thus ensuring Kafka's lasting legacy in world literature.
