After leaving Pasar Cidodol in South Jakarta, I continued walking to the north and walked into South Sukabumi in West Jakarta. In this residential area, there were only low-rise buildings. The sky was high.

I was asked to take photos of street vendors, and then bought Piscok (Pisang Cokelat). That is an Indonesian sweet snack made of slices of banana with melted chocolate or chocolate syrup, wrapped inside thin crepe-like pastry skin and being deep fried.

I was invited to buy Teh Solo (Tea in Solo). Somehow, there are many food stalls with this brand in Jakarta. It is absolutely refreshing in such a hot weather.

As usual, I visited a local market. People in Pasar Pos Pengumben were as nice as those in other markets in Jakarta. You can find any kinds of fresh vegetables and meats there.

Pos Pengumben got its name during the Dutch East Indies period when Governor Herman Willem Daendels was in power (1808). While building a 1,000 km highway from Anyer to Panarukan, Daendels established rest stops along the route for horses. Pos Pengumben was one such stop in West Jakarta specifically designed for horses to drink. The name comes from the Javanese word "ngumben" or "ngombe," meaning "to drink," so "Pos Pengumben" literally means "drinking post."
