To keep the tiny crossover's sales momentum, a few tweaks are needed here and there. The Skoda Karoq is getting a mid-cycle facelift after four years and 500,000 units to stay fresh and competitive in a highly competitive compact crossover category. The improvements begin at the front, where for the first time, high-end models can be equipped with matrix LED headlights. The technology has made its way down to the fourth-generation Octavia from the facelifted Superb and Kodiaq.
The new variant retains the four-light system used on Skoda crossovers, but the upper cluster's daytime running lights now sport a two-level design. The designs on the standard full-LED taillights have been altered to make them look thinner. With new air curtains, the front bumper was redesigned not just for aesthetic purposes, but also to improve aerodynamics. It's the same situation in the back, where the bumper has been changed to improve airflow.
The drag coefficient has fallen to 0.30, a nine percent improvement, thanks to aero-optimized alloy wheels ranging in size from 17 to 19 inches. Even the fuel tank has changed, and the front grille is a little broader than previously, giving the Karoq a harder appearance.
Skoda also made several interior improvements, including standardizing a digital instrument cluster across all model levels. The lower-cost variants have an eight-inch display, while the higher-end models have a larger 10.25-inch display. There are four different infotainment systems to choose from, the largest of which is 9.2 inches and supports over-the-air updates.
The cabin has been updated to be more environmentally friendly, with a new Eco pack that includes vegan seat covers, leather-like materials, and Mocca Brown microsuede on the armrests. The facelifted Karoq includes extended ambient lighting in ten colors and a white-illuminated footwell, as well as an option of chrome or piano black accents depending on the version.
The electrically adjustable front passenger seat in the 2022 Karoq gets a memory function starting with the Style option. The Sportline, as before, gets its own interior and exterior design, putting it closer to the look of an RS but without the extra punch. To spruce things up a bit, some of the trim levels feature new materials on the door cards.
After the Octavia, the company's second best-selling model in 2020 and the first part of this year, the Octavia is set to go on sale in Europe in early 2022. The Karoq, like the Kodiaq facelift, will not be offered with a plug-in hybrid engine, as Skoda previously stated that only the Octavia and Superb will continue to be supplied with a PHEV arrangement due to their popularity as fleet vehicles.
