ORCID is a non-proprietary system, managed by an international consortium consisting of universities, national libraries, scientific publishers, research institutes and data repositories. ORCID is a very effective tool in enhancing your visibility as a researcher, but it also reduces the time you spend registering your publication data.

What are the benefits of using an ORCID-ID?
• ORCID provides you with a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes you from every other researcher. This makes it possible to avoid faulty attributions due to typo’s, or two researchers having the same name;
• an ORCID-iD prevents fraud and plagiarism, as all your scientific output is registered in your account and therefore can only be attributed to you;
• all data that are linked to your ORCID account can easily be imported in your local institution researchers profile. This saves time in maintaining your data;
• a growing amount of scientific publishers and research funders works with ORCID, some of them actually demand an ORCID-iD for manuscript or grant submission;
• you remain at all times the owner of your data. They are not used for any other purpose than the registration and visibility of your work.
