How to use "Être en train de" in French? In French, there is no equivalent of the English continuous present, instead of using the present tense, if you want to emphasize an ongoing action, you can use Être + en train + de + infinitive. It translates to "To be + in the process + of" but the easiest translation is “To be … ing.”= Être + en train + de + Infinitive
Être can be conjugated in the present tense or in the imparfait to talk about what you were doing when something else happened.
In this video lesson, we will see 5 examples with être en train de conjugated in the present tense and in the imparfait.
