Come along to the 2018 Great North Festival of Transport this spring, and discover amazing pedal powered vehicles, a celebration of all things steam and the fascinating story of horses at war.
NEW for 2018! Join us on Saturday, 24th and Sunday, 25th March for a new event, Pedal Power. The whole museum will come to life with amazing pedal-powered inventions, contraptions and vehicles. From the dentist’s drill to penny farthings, discover the fascinating pedal-powered devices – you may even find yourself having a go at operating one!
Don’t miss the Great War Steam Fair, from Thursday, 5th to Sunday, 8th April. This year, our annual steam celebration will have a First World War focus. Marvel at the extraordinary line-up featuring around 120 exhibits including steam locomotives, road steam vehicles, motor vehicles and a fire engine or two. See the narrow gauge colliery railway at work and enjoy a ride on the steam train at Rowley Station or Pockerley Waggonway.
The Great North Festival of Transport will draw to a close with Horses at War, Friday, 13th to Sunday, 15th April. Travel on horse-drawn vehicles, watch horses at work around the museum – from pit ponies to heavy horses – see a horse-drawn field kitchen and learn more about the fascinating stories of horses during the First World War.
As with all daytime events, The Great North Festival of Transport is included in entry to Beamish and is FREE to Unlimited Pass holders.
