This is my 2000 XR650R I will start the bike lay it down and flood it out. This is the sequence I use regardless of the environment. In fact the last ride i went on I laid the bike down on a hill climb. I propped up the bike and wedged a rock behind the rear tire, then started the bike using this method. Depending on the difficulty of the terrain or elevation sometimes ill turn the bike around and go back down the trail starting the bike with the compression instead of the kick starter. Another trick I learned after flooding the bike if it still doesnt start shut the fuel off this will ensure that your not flooding the engine anymore. There is still fuel in the carb and this will lean the fuel mixture enough until it will start, then simply turn the fuel back on once its running.
