Stromal Vascular Fraction (SVF) is a heterogeneous collection of cells found in adipose tissue that has traditionally been isolated using enzymes such as collagenase. ADSCs (Adipose Derived Stem Cells), macrophages, blood cells, pericytes, fibroblasts, vessel-forming cells like endothelial and smooth muscle cells, and their progenitors are all found in adipose-derived Stromal Vascular Fraction (SVF) cells.
SVF cells can be isolated in large quantities from autologous adipose tissue and used without culture or differentiation. Osteoarthritis is a type of arthritis characterized by joint inflammation, breakdown, and eventual loss of cartilage. Treatment of knee OA with SVF intra-articular injection is a Type II regenerative medicine technology in which SVF obtained by enzyme treatment and centrifugation of adipose tissue harvested from patients is injected into the articular cavity of the patients and affected knee.
Prof. Jaroslav, discusses in detail about the stromal vascular fraction therapy for osteoarthritis patients.
