All religions use time as a central element in the way they celebrate. They have a sacred year – a sequence of festivals arranged in an annual cycle. Here Rabbi Mendy Lent introduces the sequence of festivals that make up the Jewish sacred calendar. Human feel time by relating to the festival that has just past or the festival that is coming next – this sense that time is not just numbered days weeks or months, but the sense that there is everyday time and special time, and Mendy shows how time can be organised and felt as part of a community, its history, and its worship.
