I'm sure I'm going to catch hell for saying this but St. Patrick's Day in New York City is one of my least favorite holidays, right up there with New Year's Eve and Halloween. It's not just because I am neither a Christian, nor an Irishman and it's not because I have anything against celebrating national pride in the country of our forefathers. It's because in general I hate crowds puking and peeing on the city's streets and looking like damn fools as they try to stand up and do the chicken dance. Last weekend I was entertaining friends from out of town who REALLY wanted to see what St. Patrick's Day was like in New York. I begged them to watch it all on television with Sue Simmons but they would have none of it. Luckily, I landed complimentary tickets to THE RIDE which describes itself as a high speed ride that "will move you through the city, turning famous NYC landmarks into backdrops as a live show plays out right in front of you. Through advanced audio and video technology, amazing performances, local insider info and non-stop excitement, THE RIDE will transform the way you see New York." I figured that if we had to endure St. Patrick's Day with John Q. Public, at least we would do it from the comfort and safety of a rolling thunder bus. I decided to make the most of it and shoot a video of our trip through the streets of New York. My only regret is that I ran out of battery when a group of street revelers decided to moon the bus. I would have ended my video there but instead settled on a quieter moment. Enjoy!
