Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, a day before the completion of his Rajya Sabha term. Earlier in the day, Modi had lauded Naqvi during the cabinet meeting for his contribution to the country during his tenure, in an apparent suggestion of it being his final cabinet meeting. However, with his term as Rajya Sabha MP set to end on Thursday, the minister submitted his resignation to fulfil the constitutional obligation as he will cease to be a parliamentarian from Friday. Naqvi, a senior BJP leader, is also the deputy leader of the Rajya Sabha.
