A discussion about getting labs and blood draws from patients in the NICU. I forgot to mention a few things:

-We use different sized lancets and needles depending on the size/gestational age of the patient (micro preemie, preemie, or term)
-We use Sweet-ease (sugar water) & pacifiers to help with the pain of sticks
-We clean the site with things like alcohol pads or ChloraPrep, depending on what lab we are getting
-Sometimes labs clot or we are told that there was an insufficient quantity so we may have to redo the lab
