Richmond Pharmacology’s Medical Director, Dr Ulrike Lorch (MD FRCA FFPM), walks us through each part of a clinical trial. Information is given on the nature of the trial and Dr Lorch explains that the study is being conducted to provide further data for a drug which has already been granted approval. After viewing the participants arriving for the clinical trial we are shown the detailed testing procedure that is performed on all participants to ensure they are in suitable health to take part in the trial and to guarantee the conditions are right to conduct fair testing. Dr Lorch also explains that Richmond Pharmacology’s clinical trials have meticulous volunteer testing and monitoring criteria. Strict pre-agreed schedules (protocols) are necessary for safety and to provide accurate and beneficial data. She also underlines the main factors to consider when conducting a clinical trial including safety of volunteers, benefits to doing the study and the importance of conducting a complete and professional trial ensuring all data is recorded completely and accurately.
