Axel Goethals, CEO of European Institute for Asian Studies talks exclusively to ShanghaiEye as the Belgium Forum of China Studies and World is held in Brussels.
Mr. Goethals explains that China has shifted from making low-value goods to high-tech products that surprises Europe, which still holds outdated views on China. He then suggests that Europe's fear of China as a competitor stems from not European long-time ignorance of the country and its people. To better solve the political framing in Europe, Goethals urges for more people-to-people dialogue to improve understanding between China and Europe, and praises China's visa-free policy that attracts Europeans to visit and see China.
