Tahsin Taha (1941–1995) was a prominent Kurdish musician and artist, known for his significant contributions to Kurdish music and culture. Born in Amediye, in the Duhok region of Iraqi Kurdistan, he began exploring music at a young age, inspired by Kurdish folk traditions. His professional career took off in 1957 with the song Eşkere Nakim. He later joined Baghdad Radio in 1958, where he performed and recorded over 120 Kurdish songs, solidifying his reputation.
Taha’s music often explored themes of village life, love, migration, and social issues, making his work deeply relatable and resonant within Kurdish communities. His famous songs, such as Bêrîvanê, Rabe Cotyar, and Ey Felek, remain timeless pieces. Besides music, he was involved in theater and worked as a music teacher, contributing to the preservation and modern evolution of Kurdish culture.
Renowned for his unique vocal style, Taha’s works reflect both traditional Kurdish music and modern influences. After moving to the Netherlands in 1994 for medical treatment, he passed away in 1995. He was buried in his hometown, Amediye. Taha released eight albums during his career, leaving a lasting legacy in Kurdish music .
