Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz announced on Monday that he has signed an executive order, in consultation with the mayors of Minneapolis and St. Paul, to extend the curfew for two days. The curfew for Minneapolis and St. Paul will go from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. after the escalation of protests following the death of George Floyd on Memorial Day.
Floyd, a Black man, died in Minneapolis, Minn. after a white police officer pressed his knee on his neck for several minutes until he became unresponsive.
During the press conference, the governor encouraged those protesting the death of Floyd and anti-Black racism who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 to get tested for the novel coronavirus and self-isolate.
It's been one week since George Floyd's death set off protests and outcry over police brutality and inequality.
