The shells on this DW Collector's Exotic Drum Set Shell Pack feature a veneer made from a century-old California Redwood stump. The naturally smoldering hue and grain pattern of redwood are gorgeously enhanced with a subtle Burnt Toast fade, a glossy lacquer finish, and smoky Black Nickel hardware.

That same veneer can be seen on the reinforcement rings found inside the shells just beneath the upper and lower bearing edges, and the fade pattern is incorporated into the bass drum hoops - one side is much toastier than the other.

Made with 100% maple shells, each individual drum in this set was constructed with a ply pattern that accentuates the sounds you want to hear out of that particular drum.

The 10" and 12" toms are made with VLT shells, which stands for "Vertical Low Timbre." That means that the shells have a lower overall tone due to their arrangement of the grain pattern of the plies. The outermost and innermost plies run vertically, creating less tension on the shell, allowing it to vibrate more freely (thus the lower pitch).

The 14" floor tom is made with a intensely strong X shell construction, crafted by using 8 plies of alternately diagonal-grained wood.

The 16" floor tom and 22" bass drum are made with VLX shell, the lowest grain orientation of 6 diagonal plies and 2 vertical (short grain) to maximize low end rumble.

Aside from the beautiful drums, this kit also comes with a DW Bass Drum Muffling Pillow and a Swag Bag with all sorts of handy goodies.
