Livestock Indemnity Program -- With the expiration of last year's Farm Bill extension, producers lost coverage from the Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP). Farmers and ranchers affected by a recent snowstorm in South Dakota, Nebraska and Wyoming therefore lack that federal assistance. Brad Lubben, UNL Extension public policy specialist, describes the LIP and talks about whether or not producers can expect LIP coverage when Congress passes a new Farm Bill.

Seed Corn Selection -- Tamra Jackson-Ziems, UNL Extension plant pathologist, says now is a good time for growers to begin thinking about seed corn selection for next spring. Farmers might be more aware of disease issues now since they are rolling through fields during harvest. Tamra says seed selection can be one of the most economical things a producer can do when it comes to disease management.

Forage Sampling -- Rick Rasby, UNL Extension beef specialist, says sampling forages before feeding them to livestock is a good practice to ensure accurate quality.
