Edgar Degas Biography - French Impressionist Artist Famous or his Pastel Drawings and Oil Paintings
Hilaire-Germain-Edgar de Gas, better known as Edgar Degas (Paris, July 19, 1834-ibid., September 27, 1917), was a French painter, sculptor and printmaker.
Considered one of the founders of Impressionism, although he himself rejected the name and preferred to call it realism or realistic art, 1 Degas was one of the great cartoonists in history for his masterful capture of the sensations of life and movement, especially in his works of dancers, horse races and nudes. His portraits are highly appreciated for the psychological complexity and sense of truth that they convey.
