The Swearing-In Ceremony of the 23rd group of Peace Corps volunteers in South Africa took place at the Mokopane Education Multipurpose Centre in Limpopo on 24 March 2011. All 46 Trainees successfully completed the two-month training period where they stayed with local families in rural communities in South Africa and learnt a local language.
Peace Corps Country Director, McGrath Jean Thomas led the Trainees in taking their Oath of Service and in her remarks, Deputy Chief of Mission Helen La Lime reminded the new Volunteers of their role as ambassadors of the United States and their mission to strengthen the capacity of the organizations they will work with.
After taking the Oath of Service, the 46 Volunteers were subsequently deployed to the provinces of Limpopo, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape. They will all be involved in providing services directly related to HIV/AIDS and Education through local Community Based Organizations
