This was recorded live at New York City Opera circa 1978 on a double bill of Cav/Pag. I arrived at the theater expecting to sing only Alfio in Cavalleria. But as I donned my makeup the stage manager popped his head in the door and asked, "How are you feeling tonight?"
"Great," I said.
"Good," he replied. "You're doing both operas tonight."
I had less than six hours rehearsal for the complicated Frank Corsaro staging, but since I'd done the role many times, I went out and improvised while my colleagues adapted. Great fun.
