Greetings, and welcome to the world of Officine Panerai. Today, I'll be your guide to the Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 days PAM 662. This one-of-one-thousand piece, historically inspired, limited edition can be seen along with the entire Panerai collection on our website, govbergwatches.com.
The vintage inspired and practical combination of features begins with the high polished, traditional Panerai oversized trapezoidal pin buckle. Excellent for on-the-fly adjustments during periods of activity, inactivity, hot, or cold, when you may need to change your size in one or two hole increments on the fly.
Appropriate to a sports watch, it's paired with a gorgeous ponteveccio dark rust red strap in calfskin with a 1970s Officine Panerai "OP" logo. A contrasting ecru stitch, again, vintage inspired. It simulates the patina seen on surviving mid-century Panerai combat watches, and you can see in profile the sheer cut flanks of the strap, both raw and striking. Evocative of the combat era of Panerai standard issue in the marina militare. You can see the folded twin sides of the leather, with that raw, natural cut, sheer, thick and masculine. It's paired with a supple underlay of natural calfskin for [inaudible 00:01:34] against the wrist.
The watch features screw fixed lugs. You can see the screws making for user friendly removal and replacement of the strap, should you wish to swap it out to a textile or rubber for aquatic use. You can do this easily. Or if you wish to simply change the look of your watch, you can remove and replace the strap quite easily with any of the many Panerai factory replacement strap options.
The case is Radiomir 1940, so you can see the strong lugs. We've moved past the wire lug era here. We're paying tribute to a later era of Panerai design, specifically the 1954 reference 6154 [foreign language 00:02:14], the small Egyptian. A special commission using Panerai's patented Radiomir luminescent paint issued to the Egyptian navy in the early 1950s. This watch draws its imagery, case and dial, from that historical prototype.
Now, you can see the Radiomir 1940 case is strong, but it's also sensuous with beautiful compound curves, all of high polish, in 47 millimeter stainless steel. The firm creases give it an air of masculinity.
And everything gives way to a spectacular dial, framed by a distinctive and historically accurate thermoplastic, domed plexiglass crystal. What this does is it creates the beautiful distortion the collectors adore in vintage timepieces, and it also adds loft and volume to the dial assembly. The dial itself has a beautiful faded brown or tobacco tone to it. Again, evocative of surviving examples today of the classical, small Egyptian special commission watch. What this watch possesses that the original does not is the tandem of rich rose gold hands at center, and the brilliant, undying luminescence of super luminova dial paint. The radium of the original will have degraded its luminescence such that the luminescent paint no longer functions.
This timepiece has that handsome, aged aesthetic, but with all the brightness and functionality of a contemporary sports timepiece. And as a contemporary sports timepiece, this one, complete with screw-down crown, enjoys 100 meter water resistance such that on a textile or rubber strap option, it's ready for fun in the sun, as well as elegant ensembles equally at home with a business suit or a bathing suit.
On the case back, the Panerai three-day power reserve, manufacturer, manual caliber P3000. A three day power reserve, it should be noted, far more than the industry standard of 38 to 42. It also features the aesthetic of a vintage pocket watch caliber, such as would have powered a 1950s Panerai combat watch. You see the aesthetic of the three-quarter bridge, but it's paired with modern refinements such as a dual-anchored balance bridge, and you can see a free-sprung index. The two features in tandem giving the watch robust resistance to shock-induced timing deviation.
You can also activate the watch's timezone functionality such that when the crown is screwed out and pulled to its intermediate position, you can jump the hour hand forward or backward as many hours as you like without altering the position or the timing of the minute hand, allowing frequent travelers to account for changes in timezone when moving east or west.
You can see this spectacular, small Egyptian, special tribute of 1,000 pieces. The Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 days PAM 662 on our website, [ Ссылка ].
