The ARTefacts ensemble participated as a collaborator of the Greek Non Governmental Organization AMAKA in the program “PAROL! Writing and art beyond walls, beyond borders” which is supported by the “CULTURE PROGRAM” of the European Union and had as an aim to build creative bridges between the arts, culture, penal systems and society as a whole through artistic activities of writing and art.
The goal was to record and release a CD with new works for our ensemble, composed as a cultural heritage of the program mentioned above. During the art and drama therapy program of AMAKA held in the female prison of Thiva in Greece during the season 2013-2014, the inmates recorded sounds of their everyday life and texts they liked to be heard.
This database of stories and sounds was then sent to the six composers who composed works for live electronics or prerecorded sounds and ensemble, using the recordings made by the inmates and having as a subject concepts such as confinement, freedom or other related.
The new works were recorded in September 2014 and the CD was produced by the NGO AMAKA and released at april 2015 by the greek independent record label puzzlemusik, with the support of the FRENCH INSTITUT of Greece and PROLAT A.E.
