How To Roll Your Sleeves Like a Gentleman
Today I'm breaking down three of my go-to sleeve rolls for every occasion! I believe wholeheartedly that there's an art to dressing well. And just like with so many art forms I also believe there's a lot to be appreciated with respect to the details. Things like subtle pick stitching, properly laced dress shoes, matching your belt and your shoes....or PROPERLY rolled sleeves.
#1 - The Basic Roll
Probably the most common roll you'll come across and with good reason, it's very straightforward and works great for most thinner button up shirts. Now, "thinner" is my personal opinion and I say that because I've had shirts that were definitely a bit bulkier and by the third roll using the basic roll my sleeves look abnormally bulky.
#2 - The Master Roll
This is one of my favorite go-to rolls because it has a bit more character than a lot of the other ways people recommend you roll your sleeves. It's also a bit better for shirts that are somewhat heavier because there's less repetitive rolling going on.
Here you'll take the cuff and roll it back to your elbow first. Then you'll take the remaining portion of the sleeve that is now below your cuff and roll that up and over the cuff itself. You have the freedom to leave as much of the underside of the cuff exposed as you would like here.
#3 - The Marine
This roll traditionally sits higher up on your arms and is obviously inspired by the marines. This roll is meant to be much cleaner and tighter than the other two sleeve rolls on this list. It's also a more difficult sleeve roll and it's recommended that you do it before putting your shirt on.
