I have this crazy idea to winter my mini mating nucs. Here's how I plan to do it!
March 20, 2021 Update:
All four minis have wintered successfully and are going strong. I hope they continue to strengthen so I can use these four 2020 queens for some of my May splits. I feel that this is an entirely viable method for me to provide spring queens for my operation on an annual basis.
Three of the four minis survived. I used those queens for May splits. I feel this is an excellent way to secure early queens in our short Manitoba beekeeping season.
