Legendary Egyptian Actress Dies

After a rich career in the Egyptian cinema, the queen of seduction, Hind Rostom, known as the "Marilyn Monroe of the East" and one of the best actresses of the Egyptian cinema, suffered from a sudden heart attack that placed her in Intensive Care until she passed away at the age of 82.

"She was truly compassionate. She picked he right time to leave her career to focus on spending more time with her husband and daughter," said Samir Sabri, an Egyptian actor.

Hind Rostom had a long history in Egyptian cinema; she participated in 74 films and worked with famous directors such as Yusuf Chahin, Hassan al-Imam and Henri Barakat.

Hind Rostom was born in Alexandria and started her career in the Egyptian cinema as an extra in the movie "Flirting of the Girls" with Layla Murad in 1949. She then moved on to starring in many historical movies in the Egyptian cinema like "Cairo Station", "You are my love", "I claim my heart back" and "Sleepless".

"She may have passed away but her career still lives on, and we will continue to appreciate it and enjoy it. may she rest in peace," said Sharaf Abdelghafour, President of the Actors Union.

The last role she played was in "My life is agony" in 1979 after which she retired from acting to live away from the spotlight. Hind Rostom first married late director Hassan Rida, father of her only daughter "Basant". She then married the late Dr. Ahamad Fayyad.
