I was recently surprised to see an ad for #Commandaria, the amber-colored dessert wine produced on #Cyprus by the #Crusaders during the #MiddleAges. Considering it's the oldest named wine in the world, it really shouldn't have been much of a shock from a marketing perspective. While it was around earlier, #MilitaryOrders like the #KnightsTemplar, and later the #KnightsHospitaller, vastly expanded production for export to continental #Europe, prompting King Richard the Lionheart to proclaim it "the wine of kings and the king of wines."
