Hey! Did you know that there is a Winter Olympics sport based entirely on friction? It is called curling and it is played on ice. The players actually sweep the floor to play this game!
Curling is a team sport played on a rectangular sheet of ice by two teams of four players each. The rumbling sound made by the 44-pound (19.96kg) granite stones as they travel across the ice inspired the nickname "the roaring game. The artificially created ice for indoor tournaments is sprinkled with water droplets, which freeze into tiny bumps on the surface. This surface, known as "pebbled ice," improves the grip of the stone and leads to more consistent curling.
