This video is a quick glimpse of making an amethyst coloured, geode inspired piece. The crushed glass provides texture in the artwork. Keep in mind, this is only one layer. Many resin geode style art pieces have 2 - 6 resin layers, which often includes 1 or 2 clear resin flood coats. The number of layers on a piece like this, depends on the creation, and is up to each artist. This piece was finished across the panel on first layer, so it can be left as is if desired.
The extra layers artists often add, allow for more details to be added, and to give the depth effect similar to a real gemstone. In 2nd layers (meaning after first layer has set or cured), resin artists will often, have left the open spaces from first layer, and add a few new lines of coloured resin in 2nd layer. Sometimes people like to use a metallic paint pen (such as Krylon gold or silver), to draw lines on the piece similar to what you would see in agate slices. Sometimes the added lines are painted on using a paint brush, with a metallic alcohol ink that has been mixed with a metalic pigment powder over cured resin. Future videos will be added over time, to show these & other creative options.
Products used in this video were from ArtWorks Resin canada. The resin ised we no longer carry, But now Ise and recommend iCoat CT60 art resin.

Somehow the last part of this video was cut off. Not sure what I did there. But I have added a quick explanation of what I did after the cut off video parts. And yes, I will create a new tutorial again (once I figure out what happened so I can get a full tutorial in.
This clip ends where I did a quick torch. After that, I spread the resin over the substrate panel where there was none, using a popsicle stick. After that I carefully added glitter lines, in similar fashion to previous colour lines. Then I added the gold coloured resin, in very thin lines along the edges, of both sides of the crushed glass. Then I carefully used a heat gun, to gently soften the poured lines. And that’s it. I quickly looked for any stray hair or fuzz that may have landed in the piece, that might have needed to be picked out before walking away. There was none thankfully.
This is my second ever video & YouTube video.I'm still learning the whole video & editing side of things. Please bear with me through these learning phases. 😉
Whenever using an epoxy resin, please use nitrile gloves only, because latex, vinyl & rubber are not chemical resistant. Even with no VOC resins, It is important to use in a well ventilated space. If you are using any resin frequently and manipulating with heat (where you can accidentally bring it to smoke point), consider using an organic vapour respirator. When you are sanding any resins, it is important to wear a particulate mask to prevent breathing in any resin powder/dust. Please don't use any 2 part epoxy resins near children or pets. Refer to manufacturer’s MSDS.
