Inflatable Barriers Ease Dock and Lock Gate Repairs Smarter – Faster and More Efficient!
In the Maas River, there is a lock from the sea where ships lifted from approximately 56 to 488 NAP (Normaal Amsterdams Peil). At this lock, there are two gates; an old one with lifting doors and a modern one with point doors.
Unfortunately, there were issues with the pivots, and the neck-pins were damaged, so the authorities (i.e. the Government and RWS) decided to remove the doors and take them for repairs at a construction yard in Gorinchem (centre of Holland).
At first, they chose to use seal bulkheads and pump the lock heads dry, but this didn’t work. There was leakage, plus small young fish blocked the inlets of the suction pumps. This made it hard to pump water from the places where the pivots had to be changed, making it impossible to dry the working area.
Our Dutch partner advised the client to place our NoFloods barriers at the corners of the lock heads to create a small cofferdam (dry work area) and enable the replacement of the pivots.
After consultation with our head office in Denmark, the client agreed and used the NoFloods Pro 60 barrier. The barrier proved to be fast and practical - they could quickly keep the corners dry.
In the next 4 years, the government will repair several locks overdue for maintenance and use our NoFloods barrier, which has already proven to be a great solution
