With these words Andrea Mayer, the State Secretary for Arts and Culture, commenced the press conference of the Austria Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2024.
The pavilion, designed by @annajermolaewa and curated by Gabriele Spindler, will be showcasing a collection titled “Anna Jermolaewa.”
The exhibition will feature a blend of existing pieces alongside new works created specifically for the event, exploring a diverse range of themes from the artist’s personal journey of migration to forms of peaceful resistance against authoritarian rule.
Through a variety of mediums including video, installations, illuminated sculptures, soundscapes, and live performances, Jermolaewa, a native of Leningrad (formerly USSR) who lives in Vienna since 1989, offers a profound exploration of human existence, societal dynamics, everyday occurrences, and political landscapes.
