Attorney General Mark Dreyfus says the National Anti-Corruption Commission will be a “big step towards restoring trust and integrity” in Australia’s system of government.
The Albanese government’s NACC bill passed through the parliament on Wednesday and will come into force around the middle of 2023.
Mr Dreyfus said the commission will be reporting publicly when it finds corruption, and some hearings will be made public.
“I think the Australian community will see that we’ve got a tough cop on the beat,” he told Sky News Australia.
“We’re going to have this transparent, powerful and independent commission that’s going to be rooting corruption.”
