A sheep with 35 kg (77 pounds) of fleece found in regional Australia has received a much-needed shearing.
The merino ram, named Baarack by rescuers, had been wandering around in the wild for many years and was discovered by a member of the public, who contacted the Edgar’s Mission Farm Sanctuary near Victoria, which rescued him. “Sheep need to be shorn at least annually otherwise the fleece continues to grow,” a spokesperson from the sanctuary told Reuters. Baarack’s fleece can produce as much as 61.3 wool sweaters, or 490 pairs of business socks, according to the Guardian. Baarack is now settling in with other rescued sheep at Edgar’s Mission, the sanctuary said, adding that it “all goes to show what incredibly resilient and brave animals sheep really are and we could not love them any more if we tried.”
