The first church of Santa María de la Asunción was built towards the end of the 13th century. However, only a few remains of this construction can be found at the base of today's Baroque tower.
The new church, built in the 16th century, has a single nave and an octagonal apse.
The interior features a 14th-century Gothic image of the Virgin Mary, several chapels and artistically ornamented altarpieces. The main altarpiece, in Baroque style and by Bartolomé Cordero, dates from the 17th century.
The church already had a clock in 1516, although it had to be replaced by another in 1753.
