Food delivery apps may have to pay GST in the future

GST council, scheduled on Friday, will decide on this

This is one of the 54 proposals for rate and rules revision

With this, e-commerce operators in food delivery will be liable to pay GST on restaurant services carried out through them

If approved, the operators will get time up to Dec 31 to alter their software

The proposal is based on a suggestion by the E-Commerce Sectoral Study of Suppliers/ECOs dealing in foods delivery

The committee observed that these companies don't do mandatory GST registration check

Also, unregistered restaurants were supplying through them

The revision will affect industry giants such as Swiggy and Zomato
