The Narendra Modi government has announced the rules for the Citizenship Amendment Act. This contentious legislation, which led to protests four years ago, allows applications for citizenship under the Act to be submitted online via a web portal. The Act grants citizenship to minorities and illegal migrants from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh who arrived before December 31st, 2014. Muslims are excluded, but other groups including Hindu minorities from these neighbouring countries are included. The opposition has questioned the timing of the notification ahead of elections. #caa #citizenshipamendmentact #indiatoday #rajdeepsardesai #newstoday
