Sri Lankan elephant; Something more than meets the eye - Wild World TV
Hi Wild World TV viewers..
Here we bring you another video.
It contains scenes of Sri Lankan elephant; Something more than meets the eye - Wild World TV
There are 4 tame elephants at Dehiwala Zoo in Sri Lanka.
This elephant population may increase or decrease from time to time.
'Bandula', the oldest domesticated elephant in Sri Lanka, died at the age of 79 at the Dehiwala Zoo.
In the last days of 'Bandula' the elephant, he was chained here.
The Muthuraja or Saksurin elephant, which was taken back to Thailand, was kept in this zoo until it was taken to Thailand.
You see such an elephant lying in a small pond.
These tame elephants do not have a reservoir big enough to bathe on their own.
And they are used to living with the help of people.
That's why these elephants don't bathe alone.
The elephant keeper bathes this elephant for about an hour..
This is just a small part of the video.
Elephant is an animal with high body temperature by nature...
Because of this, the elephant likes to stay in the water for hours.
Because of this, it is much easier to bathe an elephant than animals like dogs and cats.
But it is not easy to get the elephant out of the water.
The Sri Lankan elephant or Elephas maximus maximus is native to Sri Lanka and one of three recognized subspecies of the Asian elephant. It is the type subspecies of the Asian elephant and was first described by Carl Linnaeus under the binomial Elephas maximus in 1758. The Sri Lankan elephant population is now largely restricted to the dry zone in the north, east and southeast of Sri Lanka. Elephants are present in Udawalawe National Park, Yala National Park, Lunugamvehera National Park, Wilpattu National Park and Minneriya National Park but also live outside protected areas. It is estimated that Sri Lanka has the highest density of elephants in Asia. Human-elephant conflict is increasing due to conversion of elephant habitat to settlements and permanent cultivation.
The elephant keeper sends this elephant out of the water after bathing.
After that one leg is chained.
Although the food is available near them, the freedom of the elephants is limited.
