Periodically, groups of Budapest’s Jews are rounded up by the Hungarain fascist group, the Arrow Cross, and taken to the Danube River and shot. One day, Eva, her mother and her aunt are among one such group brought to a Nyilas House (what Eva calls a "Nazi House") but somehow their lives are spared.
Eva Meisels was born in Budapest, Hungary, on July 3, 1939. When the Nazis occupied Hungary, she and her mother ended up in the Budapest ghetto. Raoul Wallenberg sent them false documents allowing Eva and her mother to enter a safe house and eventually be liberated by the Soviet army in 1945. Following the Hungarian revolution, the family fled to Austria before eventually settling in Canada. Eva met her husband, Leslie, in Montreal and they moved together to Toronto.
