“The EmbryoScope™ is arguably the biggest leap forward in technology that I have seen since Galway Fertility began in 1994. This is on a par with the development of ICSI, which offers a chance of a baby to the population with very poor sperm. We are delighted to have this Embryoscope™, to add to the continuous improvements that we apply to our treatment programmes”
- Dr Declan Egan, Medical Director, Galway Fertility
The latest advancement in technology at Galway Fertility Clinic has been the introduction of a new high tech incubator – The EmbryoScope™ – which provides an unprecedented stability in the culture environment for embryos and records their progress with time-lapse imaging technology. There are only a few hundred Embryoscopes in use worldwide in human IVF clinics and we were the first clinic in Ireland to use this incubator type or any type of time lapse system.
The improved culture environment provided by the Embryoscope™ has increased blastocyst development rates per cycle, providing more embryos for cryopreservation, thus offering our couples a higher cumulative pregnancy rate per cycle. In addition to being a very stable incubator the EmbryoScope™ allows our embryologists to observe previously missed events in early embryo development through the time-lapse imaging. The EmbryoScope™ contains an internal microscope and camera, which records up to 3500 images per embryo during culture. This additional information is used to differentiate between similar embryos and blastocysts, supplementing our current embryos selection criteria.
