Algonquin park at its best in the fall
Lake trout, spec trout and bull moose. Epic brook trout over 3 and half pounds
Took a water taxi from the main entrance on Opeongo lake and shuttled to the North arm of the lake. From there we portaged into Happy Isle lake and again into Marchant where we made our main camp. Lots of good Lake trout fishing on Marchant if you know where to go!! If you can get a copy of the depth map of the lake it will really help you. We have never, ever been shutout on Marchant. We also explored some of the surrounding lakes for speckle/brook trout. That is when he hit the monster a really nice 3 and 3/4 pound brookie. One of the nicest fish i have ever caught.
Word of caution on Marchant, have been on that lake several times, for day trips, staying as a main camp and also travelling through to make our way to Big Trout Lake. If the winds pick up a little or in the wrong direction, it can get very nasty!!!! Hard to find cover given the shape of the lake. One time on our way back from Big Trout we had to cross Marchant to get to Opeongo for our water taki out and the lake was crazy. Huge swells mixed with white caps. It was one of my most difficult crossings ever.
Hope you enjoy
