Hard talking and #emmyawards nominated #pakistani journalist #wajahatsaeedkhan covers #pakistan #pakistannews #pakistanarmy and the #pakistani diaspora like nobody else.
But his recent coverage of #pakistanpolitics triggered an unofficial ban on his latest production -- #TheGreenRoom -- by the #ispr of the #pakistanmilitary.
Consequently, #wajahat's partners were warned off by the Army and then forced to drop the production, which created delays in the launch of this series (recorded earlier in #2023).
Why? On what grounds?
Does the Pakistan Army or its PR wing have the authority to ban an independent digital production without any legal reasons?
No.
But the law doesn't apply. Just about the time #TheGreenRoom was ready to launch, the Army had made a decision: shut down my efforts -- at all costs, even through illegal means. Weeks later, they slammed Wajahat with falsified charges, and then declared him a proclaimed absconder, without any due process or even a legal notice.
Thus, hundreds of hours of production and millions of rupees that went into the first season of The Green Room -- the first digital production of its kind that focuses on a candid conversation about the critical issue of #climatechange as well as #society and #politics in contemporary Pakistan with some of its brightest minds -- were wasted.
Despite several attempts to reach ISPR, there was no recourse for Wajahat but to consult legal counsel, dissolve his partnership and launch the series independently.
This here is the first episode with #fakhrealam , one of the county's most dynamic creators.
See for yourself and ask: why was this work banned, that too without any legal authority? What's wrong with it?
The answer will come to you, naturally.
And it won't make sense.
But it will probably be in uniform.
