Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi was born in the star of Punarvasu. Every month the sacred Punarvasu day is celebrated with great festivity. The tradition of celebrating punarvasu every month has been continuing from Bhagavan’s times.
On Punarvasu day, devotees sing devotional songs, including Punarvasu vannam, eleven verses from Muruganar's composition, Sri Ramana Sannidhi Murai.

The verse 8 of Punarvasu Vannam states
Devotees gather together on Punarvasu Day to add to the grandeur of the celebration by decorating the ashram with flags, ribbons and festoons, making envious onlookers say to themselves, “If only I too could help with some small service!” Such is the glory of Punarvasu Day.
