I was going through old harddrives and I came across a video of Scott drawing our friend Sarah Dear. I got a little emotional because she passed away from a brain tumor a little bit after it was filmed.
We visited her home near Raleigh to video Scott drawing her while she talked about her life and love of art.
I became good friends with her immediately. She had reached out to us after learning we lived in North Carolina, she took a few workshops with us and then would join us for group model sessions in Winston Salem.
She was sweet, funny, generous and loved to dress up in fancy hats and costumes. She loved the ridiculous and I think that is why we clicked right away.
She was so open about her past with health issues and her current condition that she was dealing with. I was also drawn to her because of how she never stopped enjoying life, her joy was contagious.
I did this portrait of her in pastel from a photo, she came to my studio with this fabulous photo shoot.
