It takes 3 YEARS to digest one scoop of protein powder? Well, not quite. In reality, protein supplements are derived from whole food sources and are simply a convenient food product. Whether it's whey protein, casein protein, egg white protein, vegan protein powder or anything else, it's just another source of protein to optionally include in your muscle building diet or fat loss diet. Technically speaking it shouldn't even be though of as a "bodybuilding supplement" but rather just as food. If you enjoy the taste/convenience that protein shakes provide then you can make use of them, and if not that's fine too. They won't build muscle any faster than any other source of high quality protein and are just an optional addition to your eating plan.
