Neuroblastoma is a rare cancer originating in neuroblasts of adrenal glands. St. Jude’s Hospital reports that neuroblastoma is primarily a pediatric cancer, comprising 50% of all infantile cancers, and is the most common type of cancer in infants under 12 months old. The American Cancer Society estimates that the majority of neuroblastoma cases are diagnosed by 5 years of age, although unfortunately most (70%) of neuroblastoma cases are diagnosed at late stage which makes novel treatment approaches critical for patients. Neuroblasts are fetus cells that later develop into neurons. The CLBPEC cell line originates from the neuroblastoma cells of a 6 month old female patient. CLBPEC cells have been used in many pediatric brain cancer studies and research into neuroblastoma cures.
