Oil Boiler Maintenance Annual Tune-Up
Today we'll be walking through how to do an oil cleaning on a boiler for a yearly tune-up. Once a year. You should have the system checked and cleaned.
Do you smell anything here? Any different noises? See any water corrosion on piping, stuff like that you want to check out, make sure it's always good to walk around the basement every couple of weeks.
Today, we're going to talk about the steps of a cleaning and where where you start, where you finish. You can either start at the fuel side or you can start with brushing or vacuuming. Today, we're going to start at the fuel side.
This is the oil filter starts at the tank. We start here, change the filter. Brand new filter, brand new gasket. Clean the filter and we go on to the boiler side. So the next half of it is working on the boiler side, which this is an ek1 system. 2000 are made from system 2000. It also has another filter on the bottom here that comes with the unit. The filter gets changed, then we go on to the strainer that's behind this cover and there's also a nozzle that has a stone filter inside the burner itself.
So this is inside the boiler. This is what we dropped on the front cover. This is the vessel inside. This is where we get the clean. Inside of these passageways is where the flu gases go. And this is the chamber. So we can check every part of this boiler when we drop it down in the cleaning. As you can tell, this boiler does need to get clean this year. With this style boiler, the front cover comes down, which makes it very easy to see your end cone. A lot of times it's in a doorway so you can't see it. How they've made this boiler and designed it so you can see the end cone and make sure everything's okay before we put it back together.
So the next step after we drop this down, we pick it back up and put it back together. The small pipes, the next thing that comes down, we take it down, we clean it out, we brush it out. We also check inside the thimble, inside the chimney to make sure everything's clear. So after everything said and done cleaning the oil change, all the oil is done, vacuum the system out. We then go into doing an efficiency test to make sure the boiler is up to peak and up to par. The efficiency test tells us how the system is burning.
