This is one of several communities in the Sacred Valley working to resurrect and relearn traditional techniques of wool dyeing and weaving using natural pigments found in minerals, native plants and insects. I did not know that Peru was the largest exporter of cochineal, an insect native to these lands that is widely used to achieve red pigmentation in modern cosmetics and foods.
