Okanagan cherry pickers and growers discuss their experiences with physical labour, climate change, intergenerational farming, and sustainability from the perspective of growing and harvesting fruit.
‘Cream of the Crop’ is a CBC Creator Network series that highlights nine individuals in the trade of growing, picking and packing fruit in the Okanagan Valley. For many, picking fruit provides a seasonal livelihood. It can be a rite of passage, an adventure or a life-long vocation. For others, the income is a necessity to support their families outside of Canada. The workers detail their experiences and perspectives in this a “day-in-the-life” look at a small-scale agriculture operation.
